Instagram Algorithm Fact Check 2020
There‘s a substantial amount of urban myth surrounding Instagram’s algorithm. To help separate fact from fiction, Instagram recently outlined some of the main Instagram feed ranking factors. Here are 6 facts.
Comments, likes, shares and views impact your feed ranking. The algorithm prioritises content that receives the most engagement. This is according to Instagram. Saves are the most powerful ranking factor at the moment.
Photos and videos are treated equally. One form of content does not perform better than the other.
The Instagram algorithm is always changing based on user trends.
The algorithm is based on machine learning and it is based on the enormous amount of data it processes every day.
All comment lengths count as engagement. Whether it’s 2 words or 200, as long as the comment is considered authentic (ie not bot-driven) then Instagram sees this as engagement.
All account types are treated equally. Instagram has confirmed that all account types, business; personal and creator, are given equal treatment when it comes to the algorithm.
The first 30 minutes does not determine your ranking. Posts are no longer prioritised by the algorithm when they get more engagement within the first 30 minutes of posting.
