The New Instagram SEO Feature Alert
From 10 July 2025, you can flick a switch on your Instagram account to help improve reach, the holy grail of social media.
There’s a privacy setting: settings >> account privacy >> allow public photos and videos to appear in search engine results. Check that it’s on and start optimising your posts with your revenue-generating keywords.
This gives your account visibility outside the app on search engines such as Google and, in theory, increases brand awareness and drives more traffic to your website.
The Reality Check
But here’s the thing. We’re transitioning to a period of zero-click search results. People get their answers straight from Google without clicking through to websites. Your Instagram post might show up in search results, but will anyone click?
My Take
I’m keeping an open mind about how much this will improve reach. It’s worth trying – make sure the setting’s switched on, optimise your captions with keywords your customers might search for.
As we move into this new era of AI-powered search, I wonder if this Instagram feature is too little, too late.
Let’s see.
