How much does website maintenance cost in Australia?
SiteSafe costs $75, $120 or $220 a month + GST, depending on what your website does. The typical entry-level plan in Australia is $98 a month ex GST, based on the published prices of 27 providers we checked in October 2026. Online shops and sites with lots of functionality cost more, because there’s more to test after every update.

Which SiteSafe plan do I need?
It depends on what your website has to do. A standard business website that mainly needs to stay safe and online suits Protect. If downtime would hurt or your site has more complex features, choose Plus. If your website takes bookings, payments or orders, you need Commerce.
What's included in a WordPress maintenance plan?
At minimum: updates to WordPress, plugins and themes, daily off-site backups, uptime monitoring, attack blocking and malware scanning. Every SiteSafe plan also includes two-factor admin logins, vulnerability protection and a real person reviewing important alerts. Watch for plans that only run updates and call it security.
Can I pay for website maintenance by the hour instead?
You can, through our WordPress support, at $140/hour + GST in 15-minute blocks. The catch is that hourly work only happens when someone asks for it. Nobody is watching your website overnight, applying a security fix the day it’s released or checking last night’s backup ran. That’s what a plan pays for.
What's the difference between website maintenance and website support?
Maintenance is the upkeep that happens whether you ask or not: updates, backups, monitoring and security. Support is help when you need something fixed or changed. SiteSafe covers maintenance on every plan. Support outside your plan is $140/hour + GST, billed in 15-minute blocks, or $630 + GST for a 5-hour block. See WordPress support.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. SiteSafe is billed monthly with no lock-in contract, so you can cancel whenever you like.
Do you look after websites you didn't build?
Yes. Most WordPress websites can move onto SiteSafe. Onboarding starts from $250 + GST. We check what’s installed, bring everything up to date and clean up anything that needs fixing first, so your plan starts from a safe, current site.
Why isn't malware cleanup included in SiteSafe Protect?
SiteSafe Protect focuses on preventing problems and keeping your website recoverable while keeping the monthly cost at $75 + GST.
No website security service can guarantee that a WordPress website will never be compromised, and a serious infection can require specialist cleanup work.
On SiteSafe Protect, eligible WordPress malware cleanup starts from $300 + GST. On SiteSafe Plus and Commerce, eligible WordPress malware cleanup is included.

How long does it take to fix a hacked website?
It depends on how deep the infection goes. A simple cleanup can take two or three hours. A serious hack can take up to two days, because we don’t just remove what we can see. We check and clean every file, close the way in, then keep watching the site to make sure it stays clean. SiteSafe monitors around the clock, so problems are usually caught early, and Plus and Commerce get priority technical response.
What happens if I don't maintain my WordPress website?
It gets slower, things quietly break, and every out-of-date plugin is an open door. Attackers run automated scans looking for known holes, so an unmaintained site gets found eventually. Fixing a hacked website starts from $350 + GST, before you count lost sales, a Google warning on your site or a blocklisted email.
Does SiteSafe replace my web host's security?
No, it works alongside it. Your host protects the server your website sits on. SiteSafe protects WordPress itself: the plugins, themes, logins and backups your host doesn’t look after. Out-of-date plugins are one of the most common ways into a WordPress site, and keeping them updated isn’t your host’s job. That’s why you need both.
Does a WordPress website need Cloudflare?
Not every website, but busy sites and sites that get hammered by bots do. Cloudflare sits in front of your website and filters out bad traffic before it reaches your host, which also speeds pages up. We add it on SiteSafe Plus where a site needs that extra layer.
Does Cloudflare replace a WordPress security plugin?
No, they do different jobs. Cloudflare filters traffic before it reaches your website. A security plugin works inside WordPress, watching logins, scanning files for malware and flagging changes. Cloudflare can’t see a malicious file already sitting on your site, so you still need protection on the inside.
Does WordPress need two-factor authentication?
Yes. A stolen or guessed password is one of the easiest ways into a WordPress site, and two-factor stops most of those attempts cold. Every SiteSafe plan includes two-factor login for admins. Use a passkey or an authenticator app rather than a text message where you can.
How often should WordPress plugins be updated?
As soon as a security fix comes out. Hacking runs around the clock now, so a monthly update round leaves weeks where a known hole is wide open. SiteSafe updates automatically in safe mode, which rolls back if an update breaks something, and blocks known vulnerabilities before a fix is even released.
Should WordPress updates be tested?
Yes, and the more your website earns, the more testing it needs. Every SiteSafe plan updates in safe mode with automatic rollback. Plus adds extra checks after major updates. Commerce stages updates on a copy first where needed, then checks your checkout, bookings and forms still work. I’d rather fix a broken site than a hacked one, but neither is fun.
How often should a WordPress website be backed up?
At least once a day, stored somewhere other than your web server. If the server fails or the site is hacked, a backup on the same server can go down with it. SiteSafe takes daily off-site backups on every plan.
Are WordPress backups enough to protect a website from hacking?
No. A backup gets you back online, but it doesn’t stop the attack. Restore a hacked site without closing the hole and the same attacker can walk straight back in. Backups are your safety net; updates, attack blocking, malware scanning and two-factor logins are what keep you from needing them.
Can SiteSafe manage WooCommerce websites?
Yes. SiteSafe Commerce ($220/month + GST) is built for WooCommerce stores and booking websites. It stages updates where needed, checks your checkout, bookings and forms after updates, and manages the integrations your store relies on. When your website takes money, a broken checkout costs more than the plan does.
Can AI look after my website?
Partly. SiteSafe already uses automated tools to update, scan and block attacks around the clock, far faster than any person could. However, attackers use AI too, and automation still needs someone to decide what an alert means and what to do next. That’s why every SiteSafe plan includes human review.
Is WordPress safe for a business website?
Yes, with the right security in place. WordPress runs a huge share of the web, which is exactly why attackers target it. Out-of-date plugins and weak logins cause far more trouble than WordPress itself. Keep it updated, use two-factor logins and keep daily backups, and it’s an excellent platform.
Do you only work with Melbourne businesses?
